Call Center Outsourcing Continues to Soar in the Philippines

According to Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, jobs in the BPO sector of the country -- specifically in the call center industry -- continued to increase from the first to the third quarters of 2011, a recent article revealed.
“BPO companies continue to expand their business operations in the Philippines. On the demand side, from the year 2010 to the past three quarters of 2011, call center service workers hold the number one position in the vacancy list,” said Criselda Sy, BLE director, in a statement.
In order to continue to see expansion in the call center outsourcing industry in the Philippines, Sec. Baldoz revealed that the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will be growing within major cities to help workers increase their skill sets to meet the increased requirements in the field.
Baldoz added that the government had created a fund to be used by the TESDA in order to help train workers in five locations. TESDA will also be spearheading free finishing courses for call center outsourcing agents training under its Training-for-Work Scholarship Program or TWSP.
Yolanda Olano, TESDA-Cordillera’s regional director, revealed in a radio interview that these scholarships can be attained by either college graduates or current college students who have at least four semesters under their belt.
“Although call center courses are offered here in Baguio and the Benguet area, the said TWSPO scholarship is open to all, even those who reside in the other provinces of Cordillera. All they have to do is to visit us at the regional office or the Benguet TESDA provincial office so that we can link them to our partner Technical-Vocation Institutions (TVIs),” Olano commented in a statement
Earlier this week, TMCnet reported that brand new business centers situated in Metro Manila and other metropolitan centers will continue to grow until the year 2015 due the high number of workers within the call center outsourcing industry.
Jones Lang LaSalle Leechiu currently represents 10 of the 12 top call center outsourcing companies operating in the country. In addition, the company also has around 10 outsourcing facilities in Metro Manila and 10 more that will come in the near future.
